I am Eric Zhu Liu, the founder and executive director of Leaders in Wildlife Conservation. I have an innate love for animals. Growing up, I was a frequent visitor to zoos and aquariums as my dream was to become an zoologist. My enthusiasm for animals did not expire with age, but rather amplified when I realized my increasing ability to contribute towards animal welfare. As I matured, my love for animals blossomed into a passion for veterinary medicine and wildlife conservation. To this end, I have always sought out opportunities to learn and interact with animals, whether working as a veterinary assistant or conducting scholarly research on zoonotic parasitology. Almost everyone uses the internet, but how many people are actually aware that we are currently sitting through the sixth and largest mass extinction? In 2019, witnessing the devastating effects of the Australian bushfires on koalas and other wildlife, I decided it’s time for action and founded the Leaders in Wildlife Conservation as a school club and organization. One of my biggest goals in creating this organization is to educate people around us and worldwide about the urgency of conservation and how ordinary people like you and me could help. A good leader is a good listener and one that works collaboratively with his peers to incorporate their input. In our organization, members are assigned roles according to their strength and abilities. As a team, we work synergistically to raise funds to fight against the contemporary wildlife crisis and to spread awareness on wildlife conservation and habitat protection. Natural world matters to each and every one of us. We need to love and protect Planet Earth––the only place we all call home. Oftentimes, people think they are too insignificant to contribute. But by reading our website, you are already taking your first step towards conservation. Our website will provide you some insights on how you can take the next step, whether taking initiative to volunteer as a WCS Discovery guide or simply spreading our message. Together, we can achieve amazing things!
