Hi everyone! I’m Shaleen Sunesara from Houston, Texas. I’m excited to be working alongside my peers as the editor for an incredible organization like LIWC. I have always had a deep interest in community service and providing aid to those who are disadvantaged. I like to engage in various community service projects which provide me with the opportunity to become an active member of my community and leave a lasting, positive impact on the society at large. This interest of mine emerged when I interned with an international nonprofit organization in Indian villages to install water conservation technologies in an effort to provide access to clean drinking water for all villagers. After returning from this trip, I discovered a newfound passion for the conservation of natural resources like water. It is crucial for us to do everything we can to preserve and restore natural resources and move towards a more sustainable approach by using renewable energy. Furthermore, I am an activist for wildlife conservation and believe that it is our responsibility as humans to take action to protect animal species and their habitats. My interests encouraged me to start an Earth Club at my school, in which we host park cleanups, roadside trash offs, and educate others about why we must protect our environment and its living organisms. I joined LIWC to make an impact by educating others about the worldwide crises at hand through the power of journalism.
